Hozier who has enjoyed an incredible year following the worldwide success of his multi-platinum self-titled debut album, global hit single “Take Me To Church”, and Grammy and Brit Award nominations, releases his new Rubyworks/Island single, Someone New – available to download now/impacts April 4th. The video for Someone New features one of the acting world’s brightest and most compelling new stars Natalie Dormer (The Tudors, Game Of Thrones, Hunger Games), was directed by acclaimed Irish director Anthony Byrne while the treatment was written by Hozier’s brother Jon Hozier Byrne and David Reilly at Stoneface Films.
It was the extremely hard-hitting video for “Take Me To Church” which first drew the world’s attention to the virtually unknown Irish songsmith’s stunning album, and this new video, with a remarkable performance from Natalie, sees Hozier continuing to tackle difficult themes in a powerful and thought-provoking way.
Speaking about her involvement in the video Natalie says :
“I find Hozier’s music always deals in the most visceral way with the contradictions that make us human. He is an incredibly talented lyricist and the most wonderful musician and vocalist. It was a joy to be a part of the ‘Someone New’ video, which for me explores the struggle in all our heads between the Real and Imaginary; it plays with ideas of how loneliness and isolation are two different things and the weight or lightness we can attach to loving another person.”
While Hozier adds :
“I was thrilled to be able to work with Natalie Dormer on this project. She’s an actress of incredible talent and intelligence, and a joy to work with. It was also a pleasure being able to work with my brother, Jon Hozier-Byrne and David Reilly of Stoneface Films on the treatment, and the fantastic director Anthony Byrne.
The song was based on momentary and fleeting infatuations of the day to day coming from a place of loneliness, and the yearning for a feeling of connectedness. Watching it come to life was a pleasure and I feel honoured to be able to work with people of such a high calibre.”
Having picked up both a Grammy and Brit Award nomination already this year, Hozier continues to dominate both home and abroad. Major television performances have included the recent show-stopping duet at the Grammys with Annie Lennox, stand-out appearances on Later with Jools, David Letterman, Saturday Night Live, Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel, Graham Norton and a performance at the Victoria Secret’s Fashion show in London. Number 1 in the Global Spotify chart, 2014’s most viral track on Spotify, number 1 in the global Shazam chart, over 100 million video views and ½ million Facebook fans, all this has been barely 18 months after first unveiling his debut single Take Me To Church.
Hozier will support Foo Fighters at Slane Castle on May 30th and will also co-headline Longitude Festival this July in Marlay Park.
