THE FRANK & WALTERS
‘Look At Us Now’
For release on FIFA Records May 15th 2015
Eternal purveyors of the most uplifting indie, The Frank & Walters’ new single ‘Look At Us Now’ arrives like a warm spring breeze after a long lonely winter. This is a band renowned for its optimism and devilishly crafted tunes; once again the Franks deliver, with their first new material since 2012’s critically heralded ‘Greenwich Mean Time’.
There’s a harmonious marriage of strings and piano going on here, conjuring days listening to The Kinks under a clear blue sky. Mixed by cohort of old Cenzo Townshend – the man behind the controls for much of the band’s early output, in addition to working with U2, New Order and Florence & the Machine.
‘Greenwich Mean Time’ saw The Frank & Walters embark on an 18 month tour that brought them to some old and some new territories around the world, including a first Japanese tour. ‘Look At Us Now’ is also set to be their first release on the Formosa Punk Label from Taiwan. There will be a new album from the band out on FIFA Records this Autumn.
The track is also one of a growing number of releases in 2015 on FIFA Records, celebrating the Cork label’s tenth anniversary. A recent sold out show at Cork Opera House in their hometown saw the Franks return for three encores and fully flex a back catalogue of hits that reminded us of the unerring, and endearing, quality of this band over numerous albums. ‘Look At Us Now’ is a fitting statement, and piece of music, to acknowledge that rich past. And look to the future.
Somewhere, Ray Davies is smiling.
