BRAND NEW ACTS TO MONDAY’S LINE-UP!
DANNY BROWN (Monday)
WILLIAM TYLER (Monday)
VELVET NEGRONI (Monday)
Our Monday line up is something special! Curated by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, he has been handpicking his favourite acts to appear on our stage. This is the only festival bill in Europe he’s curating this year – and it’s looking awesome. With the already high calibre acts we have appearing on Monday of Forbidden Fruit with the likes of Flying Lotus, Lisa Hannigan, The Staves performing – we also wanted to share another couple of gems with you before we head into the chocolate filled haze of the Easter break. So let’s get on with it….
Detroit hip hop artist DANNY BROWN kicked off attention with his breakout 2011 mixtape XXX, and his astounding new album Atrocity Exhibition is one of the freshest and boldest-sounding rap albums in recent times. He’s inspired by the work of Talking Heads and Joy Division along with contributions from producers like Evian Christ, Petite Noir, Black Milk and the Alchemist. One track ‘Really Doe’ features the star-packed trio of Earl Sweatshirt, Kendrick Lamar, and Ab-Soul. Over the last decade, he’s worked with a breadth of artists from Purity Ring and Rustie to Schoolboy Q, E-40, and Ghostface Killah. Featured in the Top 20 records of 2016 by the likes of Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, NME and Stereogum, Atrocity Exhibition further cements Danny Brown as not only one of rap’s brightest lights, but one of the most consistently inventive artists working in popular music right now.
American, indie folk, pop rock musician WILLIAM TYLER and former member of Lambchop and Silver Jews will be making his first appearance at the festival and we can’t see what this serious talent brings to our stage! Now on his fourth solo album, Tyler released Modern Country last year, a collection of beautiful instrumentals that got a 5 star review from The Guardian, who described it as “too sublime for words”. As such a respected guitarist, Tyler enlisted the help of fellow musicians to appear on this new album including Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and members of Hiss Golden Messenger are among the contributing players.
VELVET NEGRONI, also known as Pony Bwoy frontman Jeremy Nutzman, has been working hard behind-the-scenes for years, writing and recording to prepare for his first album as Velvet Negroni, a pop masterpiece with vocal chops and rhythmic control of uncanny proportions. Come check him out!
