“Octopussy” is the first release of 2016 by Midlands Irish band Cronin.
It is available now to stream and download on Live Transmission Records. It is their retake of Leeds guitar Gods The Wedding Present’s classic track.
It will be followed by Cronin’s debut album “The First Kiss of Love’ due out later this summer.
Today, the band have released the video for the track. I’ll let them tell the story…
“So here is our new single ‘Octopussy.” A cover of The Wedding Present Indie classic. Recorded by ourselves in Transmission Rooms Recording Studio, Ireland with a little help from Karl Odlum and Matt McManamon (The Dead 60s). Hope you enjoy, like and share away.
In 1967 John Lennon bought the Island Dornish off the coast of Co Mayo, Ireland. On the 21st of April 2016 we retraced his footsteps with a camera. This is what we shot… Edited by Dave Caffrey.”
Recorded in Transmission Rooms Recording studios by themselves with a little help from long term collaborators Ger McDonnell (U2, Manic Street Preachers), Karl Odlum (The Frames, Ham Sandwich) and Matt McManamon(Dead 60s, The Specials) on backing vocals.
Final dates are being put into place for an Irish tour later in the year along with dates in the UK and Europe.
CARRIED BY WAVES is the music moniker of Ronan McCann. Hailing from the Irish town of Dundalk, but based in Cork in the south, McCann has gained a strong following with his unique brand of ethereal and experimental electro-pop. Venturing out of the home studio in January 2011 he came to attention of the country’s media, following a string of well received performances throughout the country. Most notably, as part of the ‘First Music Contact’ tour, and later the ‘Hard Working Class Heroes’ festival in Dublin. This run of shows was topped off in September 2011 with a slot at the ‘Electric Picnic’ festival.
