Since they left Mexico for Ireland in 1999, Rodrigo y Gabriela have established themselves as one of the most popular acoustic instrumental bands in the world. They have sold in excess of 1.5 million albums worldwide, and have sold out venues like the Hollywood Bowl, Radio City New York, Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Le Zenith in Paris on numerous occasions.
Their film work includes the soundtracks to ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ and ‘Puss In Boots’, and they have collaborated onstage and on record with artists as diverse as Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Al Di Meola, Zack De La Rocha (Rage Against The Machine) and Anoushka Shankar. In 2010 Rodrigo y Gabriela played at The White House in Washington for President Obama.
From humble beginnings as buskers on Dublin’s Grafton Street, endless touring and a great word of mouth buzz carried the band forward until their international break out with the release of their self-titled 2006 album, which spawned the hits ‘Tamacun’, ‘Diablo Rojo’ and their cover of ‘Stairway To Heaven’. The duo appeared on Jools Holland, BBC TV’s Glastonbury coverage, plus Letterman and Jay Leno in America.
“11:11” followed in 2009, and the band went to Cuba in 2012 to record with local musicians for “Area 52”. The band’s last studio album release was 2014’s “9 Dead Alive”.
Rodrigo y Gabriela performance at Sligo Live comes at the end of their biggest ever world tour which took in twenty five countries all over the globe.

Róisín O – Better This Way
Róisín O has just unveiled the video for her latest single “Better This Way”, Set for release on Friday 21 October.
Recorded in Iceland, the video was directed by John Broe and filmed by Dara Munnis. It sees Róisín journeying through the awe-inspiring, yet harsh, Icelandic landscapes, mirroring the tone of the song.
Recorded in Eastcote Studios, London, the track was composed by Róisín O, John Broe (Miracle Bell) and CC Brez (Republic of Loose) and produced by John Broe and Eliot James (Two Door Cinema Club, Kaiser Chiefs, Noah and the Whale) with mixing by Ciaran Bradshaw (Cathy Davey, Fionn Regan, Miracle Bell).
The single is part of the studio sessions for Róisín’s much anticipated second record, which will be released in early 2017. With its foreboding lyrics, ominous melodies and haunting blues guitar riffs ‘Better This Way’ seems to be a culmination of the talents of this writing trio.
Speaking about the track O explains; “‘’Better This Way’ is a bit of a departure for me, it’s a step away from the pop vibes of my last single ‘Give It Up’. In a way it’s a throwback to my folk roots but with a lot more darkness and grit than anything I’ve released before.”
This October Róisín O is stepping away from the studio to embark on her limited run ‘Studio Sessions Tour‘ which will see her present songs in more intimate environments across Ireland; “We have been working hard over the past few months developing the new record and I think it’s important to road test the new songs in venues where we can really feel the audiences reaction”. Róisín is taking the studio on the road and the shows will be recorded live in front of a small audience. The tour will showcase never before heard songs from her eagerly anticipated second album as well as reimagined versions of favourites from ‘The Secret Life of Blue.’
‘The Studio Sessions Tour’ will be Róisín’s final performances of 2016 and will cap off a year that has seen her tour Australia, Europe and America, including stand out performances on RTE’s Centenary Programme and JJ Abrams Oscars Party in LA where she shared the stage with Snow Patrol to perform for Steven Spielberg, James Cordon and more, as well as releasing chart hits ‘Give It Up‘ and ‘If You Got Love‘.

King Kong Company have just revealed the video for their latest single ‘Donkey Jaw’ ahead of their End of Festival Season Session gig in The Academy this Friday 30 September. The video from Killer Rabbit Productions can be watched here. Tickets for The Academy €15 including booking fee are available from www.ticketmaster.ie
Right now there are two types of people who populate the live Irish music scene – those who are fans of King Kong Company and those who haven’t seen them yet.
The band headlined The Cosby Stage on Saturday night at Electric Picnic 2016 and they tore the place asunder. There were as many people dancing outside the tent in the rain as there were ecstatic head-the-balls bouncing around inside the packed arena. Two weeks later Pure M Magazine handed King Kong Company the award for “Best Live Act 2016”. The band have been having an extremley good year and it’s set to continue.
This autumn the King Kong Crew will be dealing out their dirty-dubby-electro-rock in venues around the country, with a special “End of Festival Season Session” in The Academy Dublin on September 30th. This band likes to party and on the tail-end of the best year they’ve ever had, KKC have plenty to celebrate. The Academy show is a gig not to be missed.
Donkey Jaw is the next release from the bands critically acclaimed debut album. Although this track isn’t likely to receive much mainstream airplay (it has some adult themes), it’s become the standout track for KKC fans. Both track and video take a tongue-in-cheek look at buzzer culture, providing a stark and familiar warning to those that over indulge in their social lubricant of choice. The video sees Boxhead (King Kong Company’s onstage dancer and crowd fluffer) power through The Fear to rip Saturday night a new one!
Killer Rabbit Productions, responsible for the video for Scarity Dan (Nialler9’s Video of the Week, Pure M Magazine Video of the Year Nomination), have taken up camera duties again for a video as quirkily dark as it is entertaining. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears pricked, King KongCompany are ready to roar.

Lisa Hannigan – Ora (Official Video)
Lisa Hannigan has premiered stunning new track ‘Ora’, taken from her forthcoming third album ‘At Swim’ (released on August 19th via Play It Again Sam). Produced by Aaron Dessner, ‘At Swim’ follows the double-platinum, Mercury-nominated debut ‘Sea Sew’, and 2011’s ‘Passenger’ (which charted at number 1 in Ireland, and earned Lisa another Choice Music Prize nomination).
‘I was adrift and caught in the ropes/ Under a pinhole sky, blowing off course…’ begins ‘Ora’, a gorgeous aquatic ballad first airing today. ‘Aaron sent me the music, just the piano,’ Lisa says, recalling how the track came about. ‘And the way he played it immediately conjured up in my mind the heave and the haul of oars on water. Next thing the words and the melody had just arrived in my head.’ From that sense of lostness and uncertainty comes a new hope, and a fragile, ravishing dream of love. ‘You’ll be the boat and/I’ll be the sea,’ it closes. ‘Won’t you come with me?’ Who could resist?
Directed by her brother Jamie Hannigan, the starting point for the ‘Ora’ video was a silhouette portrait of the siblings’ mother, Frances, from when she was a little girl. Inspired further by finding Youtube videos of “crankies” – backlit moving panoramas that are turned by hand – the team took turns operating the puppets over one July afternoon, all based out of the Hannigans’ (extremely patient) parents’ living room.
‘Ora’ is another glimpse into Lisa’s third – and arguably most bewitching – album, ‘At Swim’, which is already on the receiving end of significant critical acclaim. After playing in support of ‘Passenger’ for nearly two years, she struggled at first to write new material for the record: a new relationship meant that she was dividing her time between Dublin and London, and so adrift and lost, she threw herself into distraction instead. There was an acting debut as a mermaid in the Oscar-nominated animation ‘Song of the Sea’, soundtrack work on ‘Fargo’ and the Oscar-winning score for ‘Gravity’, all the while founding and co-hosting the acclaimed ‘Soundings’ podcast (which saw Lisa turn interviewer, and speak to guests such as Harry Shearer, Sharon Horgan and David Arnold). The breakthrough came when Hannigan got an email out of the blue from Aaron Dessner, guitarist with The National and producer for the likes of Sharon Van Etten and Local Natives. Taking up Dessner’s suggestion to work together and rediscovering the collaborative spirit she’d missed in Dublin enabled Lisa to see her time in London in a different light. So while ‘At Swim’ is in part about homesickness and isolation, ‘Ora’ suggests that it’s also – profoundly and very movingly – about love.

FOX JAW – ‘Hit It Off’ (Official Music Video)
Following the success of the release of their brooding rock & roll floor filler ‘Do You Want It All?‘ earlier this year, Fox Jaw return with another treat off their upcoming ‘Black Light Vignette’ EP, this time in the form of ‘Hit It Off’ – an aggressive riff laden track with a contagious hook.
‘Do You Want It All?’ hit the airwaves with a flying start both at home and overseas, from getting picked up by over 30 college stations in the USA, to 2FM’s very own Dan Hegarty claiming it to be “one of the best songs they have ever done and they have done some bloody great tunes over the years”.
