whenyoung – The Collector

Limerick’s whenyoung have revealed the video for new single ‘The Collector’

‘The Collector’ is the third track from the hotly tipped three piece, and follows stunning tracks ‘Actor’ and ‘Pretty Pure’. The clip was shot on location in London and directed by frontwoman Aoife Power.

Speaking about the clip, Aoife Power said: “The video for The Collector documents the simple, everyday movements that everyone experiences. We are all carrying out the same routine to show that we are all connected in the universal tasks of daily life but still individually searching for a sense of place and belonging. The gentle tones and slow paced everyday storyline was inspired by the films of Eric Rohmer.”

‘The Collector’ comes in the midst of a series of support slots throughout spring for whenyoung, with the three piece touring with the likes of Peace, The Vaccines and Declan Mckenna later this month. Tickets are on sale now, and the full list of dates can be found below.

More info on whenyoung

Whenyoung are Aoife Power (Vocals/ Bass), Niall Burns (Guitar), Andrew Flood (Drums). Their story started in Limerick … three underage teenagers met for the first time after sneaking into Costello’s Tavern: the only bar in town that floated their musical tastes. After bonding over cheap vodka and the sound of The Velvet Underground, they began playing music together and moved to Dublin to seek some big city excitement. Developing their sound, still with a DIY approach, the band moved to London and last year became whenyoung.

On stage, whenyoung perform a dizzying rock show where Aoife’s dreamy, heart-in-the-mouth vocals fizzle between swigs of Guinness and infectious guitar riffs. Their manager Mairead says: “When I see this band live it ignites that thing inside that makes me fall in love and wanna wrestle my way to the front of the gig”. Aoife mesmerises on stage, and critics have compared her to “Suzi Quatro in her heyday, bashing out throbbing bass lines”.

The band’s passions pulse through the veins of whenyoung and their influences could almost be picked from a collage page in a retro zine; charity shops and DIY fashion, the style of Marlon Brando, Richard Hell and Georgia O’Keefe, films by Jim Jarmusch, Jean Luc Godard, and Eric Rohmer, books by Hemingway, Paul Auster and Patti Smith, as well as musical heroes like Brian Eno, The Smiths and The Cure.

Keeps Me Out – Hawk

HAWK combine an abrasive edge with celestial vocals, to create a driving, expansive sound, with activism at its core. HAWK have been compared to Warpaint and The Cranberries with hints of Slow Dive and Radiohead.

Their music covers subjects like inequality, exclusion, gender-preconceptions and generalisations faced by different social groups every day. Their acute social awareness is a trait that the band hold dear conveying their message with beauty and grace, with triggering, dreamlike soundscapes to mirror the inequalities they witness in everyday life.

HAWK formed in London in 2014, where they also formed their label, Veta Records. Amongst the band’s supporters are Noisey, Stereogum, Clash, The Line of Best Fit and Amazing Radio, who have all commented on HAWK’s dynamic sound and compelling subject matters. New single ‘Keeps Me Out’ is out now!🔺 http://spoti.fi/2phn14T
